The science behind CBD oil is fascinating.

What is CBD?

Cannabidiol (more well-known as CBD), is one of many identified cannabinoid molecules found in Cannabis plants. CBD oil is extracted from the leaves and buds of hemp plants. Typically, strains are chosen for our products that are known to have higher CBD levels. This helps to maximize the potency of the end product.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of many cannabinoid molecules produced by Cannabis, second only to THC in abundance. These plant-derived cannabinoids, or phytocannabinoids (phyto = plant in Greek), act on the receptors that are part of our endocannabinoid system. While THC is the principal psychoactive component of Cannabis and has certain medical uses, CBD stands out! It is both non-intoxicating, and displays a broad range of potential medical applications. These properties make it especially attractive as a therapeutic agent. Source

Extraction Process

Extraction methods vary, and one option is wherein the plant is soaked in a carrier oil—typically hemp or olive—to separate the components. (KanehBosm Organics uses hemp oil, as we prefer to keep our product as pure as possible.) Contrast this with the unsafe solvent-based approach that pushes butane, hexane or alcohol through the plant to extract the chemical. Here at KanehBosm Organics, we opt to use a CO2-based approach, which places the material under high pressure. This method offers the safest alternative, and produces the purest end product.

Usefulness as a Medicine

The resulting oil is rich in CBD and low in THC, making it ideal for those seeking the benefits of marijuana with none of the psychoactive effects. CBD inhibits the uptake of THC, reducing many of the negative aspects of marijuana while still producing a calming effect. A 2016 report, for instance, found that a CBD-rich oil, administered orally, helped to relieve symptoms of anxiety and insomnia in one patient who had been suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Feel free to watch this video of Leafly‘s editor, Hannah Meadows, as she breaks down the details.

What’s the Difference between CBD and THC?

Are you ready to really dig into the science behind CBD? Here we go! CBD and THC are types of cannabinoids found in cannabis. They are similar on a molecular level; however, they react differently with the cannabinoid receptors in our cells. THC imitates the neurotransmitter anandamide and activates the cannabinoid 1 (CB1) receptor that creates a high.

CBD prevents the action of THC at the CB1 receptor and, for that reason, CBD has been known to negate the psychoactive effects of THC. Thus, the biggest difference between these compounds is CBD does not contain the psychoactive properties of THC.

Since CBD does not create the effect of a high, it is practical for medical use. It is also important to note that THC is an illegal substance, while CBD is legal when properly sourced. Source

THC Traces are Necessary

Contrary to popular belief, some traces of THC are necessary for maximum efficacy to help produce “The Entourage Effect”. However, the amount of THC in these products is strictly limited. It reflects doses and concentrations permitted by pharmaceutical standards. It’s important to understand the difference, and read product labels when finding the right CBD oil for you.

CBD oil contains naturally occurring cannabidiol (CBD), which is the main therapeutic cannabinoid found in hemp. CBD, along with other specific cannabinoids, binds to the cannabinoid receptor sites found in the human body that make up the endocannabinoid (EC) system. This endocannabinoid system was discovered by  Raphaele Mechoulam, the research scientist who isolated and identified endogenous cannabinoids.

This EC system is an integral part of natural human physiology and is responsible for multiple physiological and mental processes. Unlike synthetic pharmaceutical drugs, cannabis oil and related cannabinoids have no known toxicity level. Plus, their health benefits come without negative side effects. This is an amazing part of the science behind CBD.

The positive effects of CBD continue to be studied by scientists. They have already discovered the connection of CBD boosting the function of the cannabinoid receptors to produce soothing, relaxing effects without producing a “high.” In some countries, CBD is already classified as a medication due to its proven effectiveness. It is currently available in the United States without a prescription.

Many users choose cannabis to manage their long-term health or pain issues, while others supplement daily with healthy CBD. This helps to maintain and promote their general well-being, mood, and stress levels.

It is non habit-forming, and can be taken daily, as the science behind CBD proves. It has no psychoactive properties, and will not impair users in any way.

KanehBosm Organics CBD oil comes in liquid form, complete with full spectrum hemp oil, to work synergistically with the concentrated CBD. We believe that our CBD oil delivers health benefits that no other legal hemp product can, and we back that belief with an unconditional 30-Day Money Back Guarantee.

Proper Sources for CBD Oils are Paramount

When researching CBD products, you will want to ensure it is properly sourced and contains less than .3% THC. A reputable CBD seller should have a certificate of analysis (COA) for their products which will show both CBD and THC levels. KanehBosm Organics is proud to be third-party lab-tested, and we do have QC-passed COA’s on file; please ask! If you are searching for a CBD product completely free of THC (even only a small amount), we suggest looking for an isolate form instead of “whole plant”, like our new product line of isolates (coming soon).

It is also important to know where your CBD products are sourced from. KanehBosm Organics’ products are created from a private, organic, nonGMO hemp farm… and are grown by dedicated hemp farmers, in Colorado. This hemp contains powerful cannabinoids that can have a positive effect on the nervous system, as well as other parts of the body. Our products have guaranteed levels of CBD and are below the legal amount of THC.
